Where participation & innovation encounter: EXPO 2018, with its multi-year project, focusses on art and/in the public space. Hidden in the name of the project is the location. 2018 stands for the postal code of several neighbourhoods in Antwerp, where this project takes place. The participation aspect manifests itself in the decision making process which is in power of the locals themselves, they “curate” their neighborhoods and choose which artists will add meaning to the shared common areas, surrounding them. Durability is important here, as is interaction, between inhabitants, the city and the new interventions.
