A diptych by Nick Andrews relating to ‘De Schelde’, the river which often stands as a symbol for the city of Antwerp. ‘Docklands’ the work is called. On one painting a man is walking passed the river and its ships and on a second painting his looks are revealed and he turns towards us. This second painting can be found just above the famous Antwerp bar ‘The Vagant’. Besides painterly references and a slightly romantic vibe of ‘the wanderer’ besides the river, Andrews makes you wonder if a second form of contemplation can be found inside this bar. Both paintings have a different size and align already present architectural elements. He stands strongly connected to other artists participating in the expo this work is part of (11 artists against the wall), since he is a student of Fred Bervoets.
