Luc Tuymans

In his figurative paintings, Luc Tuymans approaches his subjects in the same way a photographer would; he zooms; he frames; he recreates. Besides photographs, he experimented with film. The colors in his works are soft and at first sight the thematics appear to be as well. However Tuymans’ work hints towards history, the political,  and emotionally charged subjects. In this way his audience often plays the role of the unknowingly bystander. Throughout his career Luc Tuymans manifested himself as one of Belgium’s (and internationally) most prominent contemporary artists.
