Will to fly

“That dad blog”: a dads blog about life with six kids. Also the inspiration for this mural by Smok. The blogger/dad ‘Alan’ has a variety of edited pictures on showcase of his son ‘Will’ flying, a power Will has because he blessed with down syndrome and the ability to fly. Now Smok lets Will fly in Antwerp, here for he expands ‘Will’ diagonally across the building with his feet fading into the colors of the wall. A folded paper bird is added to the scene and creates contrast in styles. Interesting is the shadow play which occurs on this specific location, casting a striped pattern, an almost crib-like figuration, on the wall ‘Will to fly’ is to be found. Where normally Smok creates a backdrop, taking over the entire wall-surface, for his work he reveals the building as it is with its cracks and pre-existing tags.
