The Australian Smug was invited by Yvon Tordoir in order to participate in “Antwerp Baroque 2018” and more specifically in the “Baroque Murals” which are part of this Rubens inspired Festival. Smug, relates with his hyperrealistic style, together with his use of highly contrasting colors, to a contemporary version of Baroque. At one of the busiest points in Antwerp, the Meir (the major shopping street) a man looks over the crowd, contemplating it seems. This depiction of emotion, expression is one of the main motives in Baroque.
